I ordered some lace from WhiteTree Fabrics and it arrived yesterday. It is beautiful.

It spent the evening on Janibob and everytime I walked past it reminded me of a Mantilla Veil. Hence the name for my blouse.Image

I have discovered something about me and lace….I always do my very best sewing! Remember my best ever sew…The Liverpool Trench?

Well, today was no different once I started sewing. I had decided on a blouse which I felt would work well with the drape of the fabric. It does have a slight stretch to it, however, it was a Lekala 5688 pattern and when I printed it off it looked massive……it is actually a perfect fit! So my spacial awareness is somewhat lacking!

I have taken a step by step record to prove that making a lace blouse is not tricky.

I used post-its to record which was the right side as I was not too sure and there was a slight difference! I zig-zag stitched around each piece before I started any construction.

I decided to use black cotton to underline the neck and sleeve facings. I zig-zag stitched them together making sure I did not stretch the lace.

I spent a lot of time on the floor with this blouse as  the sleeves are joined on already.

I used lots of pins to keep the fabric together when stitching. I used my version of a hairline seam….I used the 1cm seam allowance on a very small zig-zag stitch. I then cut close to the seam.

I then did a wide zig-zag right on the edge to stop it fraying.

I decided to make the facing look like a yoke detail so after attaching it with lots of pins in use, I then sewed the facing down on the outside! I made sure it was neat!

I did the same on the sleeves but not on the tie belt. This is attached to the bottom of the blouse. I wondered if I would lose some of the stretch if I put it on the cotton. I sewed it on to the edge and then finished the seam. I left a slight gap which has just a turned hem to allow it to be tied. I am very pleased with it!
